Eglise St Michel labellisée architecture contemporaine remarquable

Le label national " Architecture contemporaine remarquable " (ACR) est attribué à l’église Saint Michel. Délivré par le Ministère de la culture, ce label vient mettre en lumière des architectures contemporaines et vivantes dignes d’intérêt d’un point de vue architectural ou technique.

▪ Le label :

Il met à l’honneur des édifices et productions de moins de 100 ans non protégés au titre des Monuments historiques. Il vise à montrer l’intérêt de constructions récentes que tout un chacun peut habiter et fréquenter, de faire le lien entre le patrimoine ancien et la production architecturale actuelle.
A noter, que l’église St Michel, compte tenu de son originalité et de sa qualité architecturale est le 1er
édifice des outre-mer a bénéficié de ce label.

▪ L’église :

Propriété communale, construite en Mars 1990 par l’architecte Serge KAROFF ; l’édifice présente une singularité. En effet, c’est une œuvre originale dans sa volumétrie en Guyane, avec sa charpente en bois Peyi’ très démonstrative, mêlant charpente traditionnelle et charpente métallique.

En présence d’Antoine POUSSIER Préfet de Guyane et de sa Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles (DRAC) ; la cérémonie officielle de labélisation se tiendra symboliquement, le jour de la Saint Michel, Patron de la ville :

The national label "Remarkable contemporary architecture" (ACR) is awarded to the Saint Michel church. Issued by the Ministry of Culture, this label highlights contemporary and living architecture worthy of interest from an architectural or technical point of view.

▪ The label:

It highlights buildings and productions less than 100 years old that are not protected as Historic Monuments. It aims to show the interest of recent constructions that everyone can live in and frequent, to make the link between ancient heritage and current architectural production.
Note that the St Michel church, given its originality and architectural quality, is the 1st
Overseas Building has benefited from this label.

▪ The church:

Communal property, built in March 1990 by architect Serge KAROFF; the building presents a singularity. Indeed, it is an original work in its volume in Guyana, with its very demonstrative Peyi’ wooden frame, mixing traditional frame and metal frame.

In the presence of Antoine POUSSIER Prefect of Guyana and his Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC); the official labeling ceremony will be held symbolically on the day of Saint Michael, Patron of the city:
