« A l’origine un roman : Photo de groupe au bord du fleuve est un roman d’Emmanuel Dongala paru en 2010 chez Actes Sud. Il a reçu de nombreuses distinctions (prix littéraire des Genêts - 2010 ; prix Virilo – 2010 ; prix Ahmadou-Kourouma -2011).

La texture originale est une matière d’autant plus sensible qu’elle est exclusivement constituée de la voix intérieure de Méréana, héroïne consentie, révélée par les circonstances et rapporteuse des paroles de son entourage. Ce roman à la seconde personne du singulier porte la charge forte d’un engagement démultiplié, comme si le tu se diffractait en éclats de je.

Argument : Un groupe d’ouvrières casseuses de cailloux va se rebeller pour la dignité d’un salaire décent. Dans cette alliance inopinée de femmes qui ne se seraient pas rencontrées si la contingence ne les avait jetées là et qui vont expérimenter ensemble la violence policière ordinaire, la figure de Méréana est mise en avant... mais c’est une autre qui y perdra la vie - Batatou.

Du roman au théâtre : La solidarité créée par la situation, l’effet de groupe produit par cette revendication d’ouvrières favorisent des dispositifs de choeur. Cependant l’abondance des personnages et les situations rocambolesques imposent des choix radicaux. C’est par la fenêtre du deuil, par la fissure de la veillée mortuaire de Batatou que se réinvente la présence en scène, comme une soudaine nécessité. La proximité de la mort autorise l’éclatement chronologique, la célébration de la victime expiatoire, la représentation cathartique des événements qui ont précédé.
L’ombre portée de l’Absente fait éclater à la lumière les forces de vie et lui donne définitivement une identité.
La mort, une fois pour toutes, suspend le temps, invite aux vacillements entre réel et imaginaire dans un rassemblement rituel à réinventer. »

"Originally a novel: Group Photo on the River Bank is a novel by Emmanuel Dongala published in 2010 by Actes Sud. He has received numerous distinctions (literary prize of Genêts - 2010; Virilo prize - 2010; Ahmadou-Kourouma prize -2011).

The original texture is a material all the more sensitive as it is exclusively made up of the inner voice of Méréana, a consensual heroine, revealed by the circumstances and bringing back the words of those around her. This novel in the second person singular carries the heavy load of a multiplied engagement, as if the "you" was diffracting into shards of "I".

Argument: A group of female stone breakers will rebel for the dignity of a living wage. In this unexpected alliance of women who would not have met if the contingency had not thrown them there and who will together experience ordinary police violence, the figure of Méréana is put forward ... but it is another who will lose. life - Batatou.
