A new meeting of the Territorial Scientific Committee, set up by the Territorial Collectivity of French Guiana (CTG), was held on Monday, December 21, 2020. At the end of this meeting, the committee is able to issue a number of recommendations to destination of health authorities, based on the assessment of the epidemiological situation in the territory.

- Education:
Members advocate:

- the postponement of the resumption of classes, one week after the scheduled date, given the significant risk of contamination associated with the end-of-year celebrations - conducive to gatherings - and the incubation period of Covid-19. A postponement which would make it possible to detect possible positive cases and allow the health authorities to set up an appropriate test device.
- Strict application of isolation measures at the resumption of classes in the event of suspected contamination and a proven case.

- Local vaccination campaign:
The Committee warns of the need to adopt the vaccine strategy based on local epidemiological data and the specificities and uses of the territory.

In fact, in France, phase 1 provides for a prioritization of elderly people residing in EHPADs and professionals working there and presenting a high risk. However, in French Guiana, a majority of the population aged 65 and over lives at home with family support and is not concerned by accommodation in EHPAD.

In addition, epidemiological data indicate a significant proportion in Covid-19 patients, non-elderly adults with co-morbidities (around 40%).

Considering these data, the committee recommends prioritizing the following audiences in French Guiana:

  •     Elderly people residing in EHPAD and at-risk personnel working there
  •     Elderly people outside EHPAD
  •     People of all ages with co-morbidities

- Christmas and New Year :

The committee calls on everyone to be responsible during this festive period.

He advises :
- avoid large gatherings
- recourse to antigenic tests before family reunions
- strict observation of barrier gestures

- Screening for complications:
The committee recommends a better partnership with liberal medicine for the reinstatement of the mechanism for screening complications to identify the patients most at risk in favor of appropriate management.
