Prise en charge de migrants à Sinnamary

Vendredi 8 janvier 2021, les Forces Armées en Guyane (FAG) et la Gendarmerie Nationale ont intercepté une pirogue dans les eaux territoriales au large de Sinnamary, dans laquelle se trouvaient 23 personnes en situation irrégulière, dont deux passeurs.

Le piroguier a été immédiatement placé en garde à vue, tandis que les autres personnes ont été prises en charge pour la nuit par le directeur de l’hôtel du fleuve de Sinnamary, en attendant l’organisation des tests Covid-19.

Le lendemain, sous l’autorité du préfet de la région Guyane, les services de l’État ont organisé le dépistage au Covid-19 de toutes les personnes présentes. Aucun test n’ayant été positif, la Police aux Frontières (PAF) présente sur place a alors procédé à l’audition des étrangers en situation irrégulière. La possibilité de déposer un dossier de demande d’asile dans les 48 h leur a alors été notifiée. Ces demandes seront instruites conformément aux engagements internationaux de la France.

Le piroguier brésilien a quant à lui été condamné à 8 mois de prison ferme et 5 ans d’interdiction du territoire français. Pris en charge par la PAF pour un éloignement, il sera remis aux autorités brésiliennes.

L’État est pleinement mobilisé en Guyane sur les questions migratoires dans le respect des lois et de la réglementation.

Friday January 8, 2021, the Armed Forces in French Guiana (FAG) and the National Gendarmerie intercepted a canoe in the territorial waters off Sinnamary, in which were 23 people in an irregular situation, including two smugglers.

The boatman was immediately taken into police custody, while the others were taken in overnight by the manager of the Sinnamary River Hotel, pending the organization of the Covid-19 tests.

The next day, under the authority of the prefect of the French Guiana region, state services organized screening for Covid-19 of all those present. As no test was positive, the Border Police (PAF) present on the spot then proceeded to interview foreigners in an irregular situation. They were then notified of the possibility of submitting an asylum application file within 48 hours. These requests will be processed in accordance with France's international commitments.

The Brazilian pirogue was sentenced to 8 months in prison and 5 years of ban from French territory. Supported by the PAF for removal, it will be handed over to the Brazilian authorities.

The State is fully mobilized in French Guiana on migration issues in compliance with laws and regulations.
