• 12 personnes font l’objet d’une obligation de quitter le territoire français (OQTF) avec un placement au centre de rétention administrative (CRA) suite à l’instruction des dossiers par la préfecture ;
• 1 personne était déjà sous contrôle judiciaire ;

On January 20, 2021, 2 canoes with 15 illegal foreigners on board docked on Cayenne Island. Already on January 14, 1 canoe and its 35 passengers were apprehended.

Late Wednesday afternoon, the Territorial Directorate of the National Police (DTPN) of French Guiana was informed by the local branch of the Intervention Group of the National Gendarmerie (GIGN) of the arrival on the island of Cayenne from a pirogue with migrants on board.

An interministerial system was then put in place, combining the staff of the border police and the judicial police.
In the early evening, the 2 canoes, under the escort of the GIGN branch, docked in the town of Rémire-Montjoly.

In total, 15 people of Brazilian and Haitian nationality were disembarked, and the smuggler placed in police custody.

In accordance with the laws of the Republic, the passengers were taken care of by the State services, for administrative follow-up:

• 12 people are subject to an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF) with a placement in the administrative detention center (CRA) following the examination of the files by the prefecture;
• 1 person was already under judicial control;
• 1 person declared themselves an asylum seeker during their hearing and must therefore report to the Red Cross within 48 hours.

In conjunction with the Brazilian Consul General, the Prefecture’s diplomatic mission is working to obtain escort authorizations to the border and handing them over to the authorities in their country.

The mobilization and cooperation of state services are essential in the fight against irregular immigration carried out under the authority of the Prefect.
