Opération de sauvetage en mer en Guyane

Le mardi 31 août 2021 et le mercredi 1er septembre, sous la direction du centre régional opérationnel de surveillance et de sauvetage (CROSS) Antilles-Guyane, un important dispositif aéromaritime et terrestre comprenant des moyens des forces armées en Guyane (FAG), de la gendarmerie départementale (hélicoptère de la SAG), du SDIS 973 et de la Société nationale de sauvetage en mer (SNSM) a été mobilisé afin de rechercher d’éventuels naufragés sur une large bande côtière allant de Cayenne à Sinnamary.

À l’origine de l’intervention, la découverte par un navire de plaisance d’une femme agrippée à une bouée du chenal d’accès au port de Kourou et déclarant avoir dérivé suite au naufrage de son embarcation le 28 août vers 23h00 au large de la pointe Behague. D’après ses déclarations, à bord de la pirogue se trouvaient vingt-quatre personnes (17 hommes / 7 femmes) qui auraient embarqué à Oyapock afin de rejoindre Cayenne et Kourou.

La mobilisation des différents moyens aériens et maritimes a permis de retrouver et de récupérer 4 naufragés (dans le chenal de Kourou, sur l’ilet Le Père et sur l’île du Grand Connétable). Un corps encore à identifier a également été repêché au large de Kourou.

Sur proposition du CROSS-AG, le préfet de Guyane a décidé l’arrêt des recherches en mer le 1er septembre 2021 dans la soirée. Le Parquet de Cayenne a décidé l’ouverture d’une enquête de police judiciaire, confiée à la brigade de gendarmerie maritime de Cayenne.

Le sauvetage en mer est l’une des missions de l’action de l’Etat en mer (AEM). Conduit sous l’autorité du préfet de Guyane en sa qualité de délégué du gouvernement pour l’AEM, il peut mobiliser des moyens humains et matériels importants pour porter secours à celles et ceux qui sont victimes de conditions météorologiques défavorables et/ou font preuve de négligence s’agissant du respect des règles de sécurité nautique.

According to his statements, on board the canoe were twenty-four people (17 men / 7 women) who embarked at Oyapock to join Cayenne and Kourou.

The mobilization of various air and sea resources made it possible to find and recover 4 castaways (in the Kourou channel, on Le Père islet and on the island of the Grand Constable). A body still to be identified was also recovered off Kourou.

On a proposal from CROSS-AG, the prefect of French Guiana decided to stop the sea searches on the evening of September 1, 2021. The Cayenne prosecutor's office has decided to open a judicial police investigation, entrusted to the Cayenne maritime gendarmerie brigade.

Rescue at sea is one of the missions of State Action at Sea (AEM). Led under the authority of the Prefect of French Guiana in his capacity as government delegate for the AEM, he can mobilize significant human and material resources to help those who are victims of adverse weather conditions and / or demonstrate negligence in respect of boating safety rules.
