Colloque dématerialisé "La quête identitaire de René Maran"

Le 20 janvier dernier, la Collectivité Territoriale de Guyane (CTG) a lancé l’année René Maran. Cette initiative a été pensée pour célébrer le centenaire du Prix Goncourt remporté en 1921 par l’écrivain, pour son roman « Batouala » qui raconte la vie d’un village africain du point de vue de son chef, Batouala. C’était la première fois qu’un auteur noir remportait cette distinction.

Toujours guidée par une volonté de faire connaître cet illustre auteur, la CTG organise un un colloque autour de l'auteur intitulé "La quête identitaire de René Maran", en partenariat avec l'Université de Guyane, l'Association Guyanaise René Maran, et l'Association des Professeurs d'Histoire et de Géographie, les vendredi 8 et samedi 9 octobre 2021.

Enjeux :

Rendre hommage à cet auteur guyanais, personnage historique, décrit comme l’un des précurseurs du mouvement de la négritude;
Faire découvrir ou redécouvrir l’œuvre de René Maran, écrivain et fonctionnaire colonial d’origine guyanaise;
Permettre à la population de s’approprier son œuvre et de saisir l’importance du caractère controversé de celle-ci au regard de l’époque de sa parution.

On January 20, the Territorial Collectivity of French Guiana (CTG) launched the year René Maran. This initiative was designed to celebrate the centenary of the Goncourt Prize won in 1921 by the writer, for his novel "Batouala" which tells the life of an African village from the point of view of its leader, Batouala. It was the first time that a black author had won this distinction.

Always guided by a desire to make this illustrious author known, the CTG is organizing a colloquium around the author entitled "The quest for identity by René Maran", in partnership with the University of French Guiana, the guianese association René Maran, and the Association of History and Geography Teachers, Friday 8 and Saturday 9 October 2021.

Challenges :

Pay homage to this Guianese author, a historical figure, described as one of the precursors of the negritude movement;
To discover or rediscover the work of René Maran, writer and colonial official of Guianese origin;
Allow the population to appropriate his work and understand the importance of the controversial nature of it in view of the time of its publication.
